The Moving Ground

by Mariona Vinyes Ràfols and Mireia Varón Gallofré

"I’m moving, I guess. I've learned, through movement, that I can’t control everything; you need to let go in order to catch it again, or catch it differently."

The Moving Ground is an interactive site-specific performance that explores inestability, adaptation and interdependence. It begins with two bodies negotiating balance on moving ground, constantly adjusting to each other, to space, and to the unknown. How do we move when there is no solid base to hold on to?

The piece is rooted in the artists’ shared experiences of displacement, cultural transition, and the emotional states involved in continuous movement. The piece draws on from personal and embodied knowledge to explore the tension between the desire for motion and the longing for stability. The Moving Ground seeks to reinterpret familiar environments through dance, offering audiences a unique and intimate experience that resonates with a sense of home.

Designed for public spaces and non-conventional places, such as cafes, bars, libraries, and public buildings, the piece is for all-ages and Language No Problem. Adaptable to different environments, indoors and outdoors, the piece incorporates and interacts with the elements from the surrondings.

The process has been supported by Janivo Stichting Fund, Culture Moves Europe, Moving Arts Project and FreeZone Barcelona.
